Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jr Boxing Betting

It is expected that Joe Calzaghe will battle Roy Jones Jr. on September 20th at Madison Square Garden in New York in what should be a great bout for boxing betting.

Calzaghe will be defending his Ring Magazine light-heavyweight title against Jones and trying to end his career undefeated. Calzaghe is unbeaten in 45 bouts and has held the WBO super middleweight title for almost 11 years.

Boxing betting on the bout should be huge and HBO is expected to televise the bout on pay-per-view.

Jones is coming off a win against Felix Trinidad in boxing betting and was asking for the fight for months. Jones is 52-4 with 38 knockouts in his career while Calzaghe is 45-0 with 32 knockouts. Both fighters are promoting the fight and it is expected to generate a lot of interest on the boxing betting board.

Jones has won three straight fights after losing to Antonio Tarver twice and Glen Johnson. A win for Jones against Calzaghe would propel him back to the top of the division while a win for Calzaghe would cement his position as one of the greatest fighters in boxing odds history.

Both fighters have been looking to put the fight together for a while now. Jones is looking at the bout as a springboard to going back to the heavyweight division and taking on Samuel Peter who has one of the heavyweight titles.

“They call Samuel Peter ‘The Nightmare,'” Jones said. “I’ll give him a nightmare. I like to do stuff people think I can’t do. But I am really looking forward to fighting Joe first. Joe called me out and it’s hard for me to turn that down. I didn’t need the fight, but he asked for it and it’s hard to turn down that opportunity when he’s such a credible and worthy champion.”

“You ask me to fight, you’re a champion and you’re 45-0? That’s the kind of stuff I like to do, you feel me? I think Joe is a true champion and I think he really is going to fight me. I want to get back to the pound-for-pound list and this is the shortcut. I beat Joe, I’m back on top.”

There is no question that the fight will attract some attention to a sport that badly needs it. Boxing betting has taken a backseat to UFC betting the past few years and most boxing odds are rarely looked at by most bettors.

A Calzaghe-Jones matchup in boxing betting would get the sport back on the map, at least for a little while.
