College Football Odds – 2009 Big East Football Odds Favor West Virginia

The Big East may not have the high profile of the SEC or the Big 12 but the conference will be competitive with six teams having college football odds of less than 10-1 at sportsbooks.

West Virginia is the slight favorite in college football betting odds at +220 to win the Big East at online sportsbooks.

While West Virginia is a slight favorite to win the Big East this season there are a number of other contender in college football betting odds. South Florida and Pittsburgh are +250 to win the Big East at sportsbooks while Rutgers is +400.

Defending champion Cincinnati is +800 as is Connecticut. Only Louisville and Syracuse don’t look to be in serious contention in college football odds.

West Virginia has to replace Pat White but Jarrett Brown could be just as good and the Mountaineers still have running back Noel Devine. The defense for West Virginia has potential in sports odds as well with eight starters returning. The problem for West Virginia in college football odds is head coach Bill Stewart who has yet to prove he is head coaching material.

Pittsburgh has to replace running back LeSean McCoy and that will not be easy but they do return wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin. The problem for the Panthers is that they still have Bill Stull at quarterback and Dave Wannstedt as head coach. The good news for Pitt is that they have a defense that is capable of dominating in college football odds.

South Florida has two marquee players in quarterback Matt Grothe and defensive end George Selvie. The problem for the Bulls is that Grothe is great one week and rotten the next. His inconsistent play is why the Bulls probably won’t win the Big East.

A team to watch in the Big East is Connecticut as they go with a no-huddle offense this season. The question is whether or not the Huskies have the personnel to make it work. Connecticut also has to replace running back Donald Brown and that won’t be easy.

Cincinnati is the defending college football champ of the Big East and they are not without a chance. They have a very good receiver in Mardy Gilyard and a solid quarterback in Tony Pike. If Cincinnati can come up with a defense they could repeat and surprise everyone in college football betting odds.

Rutgers is the team with the easiest schedule and many people are picking them to win the conference because of that schedule. The problem for Rutgers is that they have to replace a ton of talent including QB Mike Teel and wide receivers Kenny Britt and Tiquan Underwood. The defense isn’t anything special either.

Louisville continues to be a mess under head coach Steve Kragthorpe while Syracuse at least should be interesting in sports betting odds with former Duke guard Greg Paulus as the quarterback.
