Curlin Prepares for Turf Racing

Curlin may be racing on the turf for the first time this Saturday in the half million dollar Man o’ War Stakes at Belmont Park. The only thing standing in the way is licensing issues in New York regarding minority owners of Curlin.

Another option for Curlin would be the Arlington Handicap, also on Saturday. Curlin is definitely the star in horse racing betting and would attract extreme interest in either race.

Curlin breezed an easy half mile on Monday in 50.80 seconds. Trainer Steve Asmussen has said if the licensing issues are resolved that Curlin would ship from Churchill Downs on Thursday.

Curlin is the 2007 Horse of the Year and has won his last five races in horse racing odds. Curlin has so dominated horses on the dirt that his connections are trying the turf, preparing for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in France in October.

Curlin’s jockey, Robby Albarado has been a popular winner for horse racing betting gamblers this year. He won his first Churchill riding title this season with 73 wins.

“It means a lot,” said Albarado, “I know I’m at a point in my career where leading-rider titles probably won’t make a difference in the business that I’ve established, but this was one of my own personal goals.”

The trainer title went to Tom Amoss who had 35 wins in 87 starts. “This is a special feeling,” said Amoss, “This is a prestigious meet.”  35 out of 87 starts is a nice 40 percent winning percentage in horse racing betting.

Asmussen was second in the trainers’ race with 30 wins and was oftentimes a popular choice among horse racing betting gamblers.

Churchill did not have one of their better meets as horse racing betting was not available on some major networks because of a dispute. The field sizes were the lowest in over a decade at Churchill Downs.

Another trainer that was a winner quite a bit in Churchill Downs horse racing odds was Rob O’Connor, who won 10 races in just 24 starts. Nick Zito was also a profitable trainer for horse racing betting gamblers as he won over 40% of the time.
