Two teams expected to battle for the top of the NFC South meet in NFL betting for Week 1 of the regular season as the New Orleans Saints host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on FOX.

New Orleans was expected to contend for the NFC title last season in NFL betting but they slumped to a 7-9 record. They were even worse against the NFL betting odds going 6-10.

The Saints have an explosive offense led by quarterback Drew Brees who set an NFL record with 440 completions last season. Brees has a number of weapons including running backs Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush.

The Saints also added tight end Jeremy Shockey in the off-season and he should provide Brees with another offensive weapon. The Saints will get a good test in this game as they face the #1 ranked pass defense from last season. The Bucs allowed only 170 yards per game through the air a year ago according to NFL betting stats.

The Bucs will face an improved New Orleans defense led by newcomers Jonathan Vilma and Dan Morgan. The Saints also have rookie Sedrick Ellis who should improve the defense.

Tampa Bay won the NFC South last season going 9-7 both straight up and against the NFL betting pointspread. The Buccaneers did not play well down the stretch last year even though they won the division. They covered only one of their last five games. They are 2-4 against the NFL odds in their last six road games.

Five of the last six Tampa Bay road games have gone over the NFL betting total.

The Saints have been a terrible home favorite on the NFL schedule. They are 5-16 in their last 21 games laying the number. New Orleans has gone over the NFL odds in their last five home games. Tampa Bay has won four of the last six meetings between the two teams.

The Bucs have covered the last five times at New Orleans. The last five meetings between the two teams have gone over the NFL betting total.
