Thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown season comes to a close this Saturday as the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes in New York and for the 35th-straight year, there will be no Triple Crown champion in the sport. Affirmed in 1978 is the last horse to go into the record books. 2013 Belmont Stakes odds have listed Orb as the 5/2 morning line favorite, not much different from the Kentucky or the Preakness. Orb was the post-time 5/1 horse betting favorite at the Kentucky Derby on May 4th and he delivered, rallying on the final turn for a 2 1/2-length victory over long-shot Golden Soul.

The event is called the "fastest two minutes in sports" which is always held on the first Saturday in May at the famed Churchill Downs track for the best 3-year-old thoroughbreds in the world. The event is also the first jewel of Triple Crown as jockey's horses and trainers alike look to win three consecutive races in search of the elusive title. With just days away from the big event, 2013 Kentucky Derby odds favor Verrazano as the 9/2 horse betting favorite to win around the 1 1/4-mile track on Saturday and a 16/1 favorite to become this year's first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
