The ACC will clash against the Big Ten when the #7 Buckeyes face the #12 Tigers on January 3rd in Miami. Ohio State will take the field at Sun Life Stadium wondering what could have been as the squad went 12-1 on the year, just missing a BCS title game berth with a 24-34 loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten title game. Clemson on the other-hand, finished with a 12-2 overall record falling to then #5 FSU 14-51 in the middle of the season before losing an embarrassing 17-31 to then #10 South Carolina to conclude the year. Although on paper, the Buckeyes dominance looks to have a substantial edge, 2013 Orange Bowl predictions have Ohio State favored by only a field-goal in odds vs Clemson. Vegas sportsbooks have listed the Buckeyes as -3 point favorites vs the Tigers with an over/under odds total of 68.
The Ohio State squad almost finished with a nearly a perfect regular season for head coach Urban Meyer which surely would have earned a bid in the BS title game. Instead, the Buckeyes fell to the Spartans in the Big Ten championship knocking Ohio State out of contention. A tough disappointment for the #4 ranked offense in the country scoring an average of 46.5-points per game. Junior QB Braxton Miller has had an outstanding season throwing for 1,860-yards and 22-touchdowns while rushing for 1,033-yards and 10-TD's. Senior RB Carlos Hyde will be the difference maker in a Buckeyes victory however looking to punctuate a season consisting of 1,408-yards and 14-touchdowns. Although Orange Bowl predictions have Ohio State field-goal favorites vs Clemson, it is important to note the Buckeyes concluded the year with just a 7-6 record against the spread and are coming off a 5.5-point loss as favorites against the Spartans.
Bookmakers weren't expecting the Clemson Tigers to finish the season with a 10-2 record to earn the #12 ranking but that's exactly what head coach Dabo Swinney orchestrated, leading the Tigers to their third consecutive season with 10 wins or more. Clemson had looked to extend their 24-game winning streak but all was lost in the season finale to the Gamecocks. Senior QB Taj Boyd has let it fly this season throwing for 3,473-yards and 29-touchdowns but the running game has been ineffective as the tandem of RB Roderick McDowell and Boyd only accounted for 1,229-yards and 14-TD's. The key to a Tigers victory in 2013 Orange Bowl predictions will be whether or not the #17th ranked defense can contain the speedy Braxton Miller and clog up the passing lanes. 2013 Orange Bowl predictions are expecting Clemson to keep a close game and since underdogs have recently gone 7-3 ATS in the past 10 appearances, the Tigers could be looked at as a valuable moneyline price.
