It's that time of the year again when gasoline fills the air and the women fill the saloon in Daytona Beach, Florida as the first NASCAR racing events of the season get ready for their final preparations. The 2.5-mile, tri-oval International Speedway will open its doors to the public on February 18th for the Budweiser Shootout at 8:00pm EST on FOX which will be followed by the Gatorade Duals on February 23rd at 1:00pm EST on the Speed Channel. Then the grand daddy of them all will take place on February 26th as 2012 Daytona 500 odds will take center stage when the checkered flag drops at 12:00pm EST which can be seen live on FOX. NASCAR betting in Vegas favors Kevin Harvick at 8/1 to win the first race of the year with Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr all listed as second choices at 10/1.
Harvick will enter the 2012 racing season as the favorite after finishing last year in third place of the Sprint Cup standings behind Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards. The #29 Budweiser Chevrolet finished 58-points off the lead in 36-starts for 4-wins, 9-top five, 19-top ten wins and an average finish of 11.5 last year. Harvick will enter the race by the beach having 2-wins at Daytona with 5-top five and 9-top ten finishes for an average of 15.4. Harvick is favored in 2012 Daytona 500 odds to win at 8/1 but is listed as a co-third choice to win the Sprint Cup series at 7/1. Busch is also listed at 7/1 to win the series championship and is the second NASCAR betting choice to win at Daytona with odds of 10/1. So much could happen around the 2.5-mile track for the first race of the year and being such a wide open field, Vegas bookmakers have listed seven other drivers at 10/1 as well. Fresh off a championship season, Tony Stewart along with Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edward and Jeff Gordon are all listed at 10/1.
Tony Stewart is listed at 10/1 after defeating Edwards in the Ford 400 to cap a remarkable comeback and claim last season's crown. Stewart and the #14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet finished last season with 5-wins, 9-top fives and 19-top ten placements for an average finish of 12th. Despite being an underdog, Stewart has had much success at the International Speedway with 3-wins, 7-top five and 12-top ten finishes for his career with an average of 16.7. While Stewart many be the gamblers favorite to win the first race of the year, the Stewart-Haas Racing team is listed as 8/1 longshots to win the Sprint Cup series title again this year. Kyle Busch rounds out the top three choices in 2012 Daytona 500 odds also at 10/1 finishing 12th last season with 2,246-points. Busch has proven to be one of the most consistent drivers in the racing circuit but has only 1- win for his career at the International Speedway with 5-top five, 6-top ten and an average finish of 17.6 at the track.
