![]() Super Bowl predictions in Vegas and at online sportsbooks are holding strong to favoring New England by a field goal in Giants vs Patriots odds for the championship game on February 5th. The over/under betting total hasn't fluctuated much either since the opening lines and currently sits at 54.5 while the money line slightly favors the Patriots at -135 with the Giants as +115 underdogs. Heavy action on New York at the MGM Mirage in Vegas however has dropped the line down to 2.5 by Tuesday morning. It does seem that the sentiment is taking hold with many handicappers and announcers as most are now leaning towards a New York victory similar to the one witnessed during the 2007-08 season. Super Bowl XLII featured a tough defensive battle with only 10-points allowed by both teams but the Giants found a way for 14-fourth quarter points in a 17-14 win to easily cover the 12-point spread as underdogs. Now, the New York Giants will once again take center stage as longshots to win in 2012 Super Bowl predictions despite going 2-0 against the spread in head to head match-ups vs New England since 2001. That being said, the Giants have also gone a dismal 2-4 overall vs the Patriots in their last six games. So basically something has to give but will it be the Giants offense or the Patriots defense? New York, led by quarterback Eli Manning, finished the regular season 5th in overall passing yards per game at 295.9 but have not been able to establish a running game ranking in the bottom of the league for rushing yards at 89.2-per game (32nd). The New England defense has not had the ability to play with the same tenacity it has in years passed and it showed as the Patriots ranked 31st in the league allowing opponents an average of 293.9-yards per game and 117.1-yards on the ground (17th). In contrast to Manning's and the Giants offensive accomplishments, Tom Brady and potent New England offense finished the year with a 13-3 record and ranked 2nd in the league for passing yards at 317.8-pg but just couldn't seem to find any running room averaging a mediocre 110.3- yards per game (20th). When you factor in that TE Rob Grankowski, who had a record setting season with 1,327-yards and 17-touchdowns, hasn't practiced with the team since hurting his ankle vs the Ravens and its not hard to see why a good portion of the wise guy money in Giants vs Patriots odds is starting to lean towards a New York victory.
