![]() After a weekend of great finishes for the AFC and NFC championships, we are finally down to two teams that will make the trip to Indianapolis. Both games were decided on field goals as the Baltimore Ravens missed to send the New England Patriots through while the San Francisco 49ers hopes were ended with the New York Giants splitting the uprights in overtime. Super Bowl odds for 2012 in Vegas favor the Patriots by a field goal as they face the Giants at Lucas Oil Stadium on February 5th. The 46th edition of the big game will be a rematch of sorts as the Patriots vs Giants match-up also played for the title in the 42nd edition. New York went on to win XLII by a score of 17-14 but are underdogs to do so again in XLVI despite being 3-0 against the NFL betting spread in the playoffs thus far. The over/under total has been set at 55 while the moneyline also favors New England at -160 with New York paying out +140 for the straight up win. Tom Brady had a tough time vs the Baltimore defense in the AFC championship game finishing with a 57.5-quarterback rating throwing 22/36 for 239-yards with 0-touchdowns and 2-interceptions. The Patriots defense however, was still able to carry Brady for his 16th career postseason victory after finishing the season ranked 31st in passing yards allowed per game (293.9) and 17th in the league for stopping the run (117.1-ypg). The Patriots defense blanketed Baltimore's RB Ray Rice as the league's total yardage leader simply could not find any room to establish a running game and finished the day with only 67-yards and no touchdowns. LB Brandon Spikes helped secure the Patriots win with an interception of Ravens QB Joe Flacco in the fourth quarter. NFL betting in Vegas slightly favors the Patriots in Super Bowl odds for 2012 as New England has won ten consecutive games and gone 4-2 straight up vs the Giants in their last six games but at the same time, are just 1-5 against the spread in those match-ups. The New York "football" Giants are hoping to repeat the results from the 42nd edition of the big game despite being listed as 3-point underdogs to win their fourth straight game of the playoffs. The G-men earned their way to Indianapolis by defeating the Atlanta Falcons in the wild card round and then went on the road to defeat the Green Bay Packers (37-20) and the San Francisco 49ers in overtime (20-17). Not bad for a team that was listed at the beginning of the year as 22/1 longshots to hoist the Lombardi trophy and then finished the season with a 9-7 overall record. That being said, "big blue" somehow turned things around to play like a championship caliber team once again as they look to win their fourth title since 1986. Eli Manning has emerged to be the team leader after guiding New York through the NFC divisional round vs Green Bay and the conference championship vs the 49ers throwing 32/58 for 316-yards with two touchdowns. The Giants have a pretty good defense as well causing two fumbles and holding San Fran QB Alex Smith to only 196-yards in the NFC title game. New York might be underdogs in February's rematch of champions but the Giants have gone 5-1 against the spread when playing the Patriots. The problem for New York though is a 2-4 straight up record in the last six game vs New England. Super Bowl 2012 Predictions: Giants +3 New York Giants vs New England Patriots |
