Wild Card weekend begins on Saturday with teams from the AFC and NFC conference slugging it out on the field for the final spots on the road to Super Bowl XLV. The reigning champion New Orleans Saints vs Seattle Seahawks will kick-off at 4:30pm EST from Qwest Field on NBC followed by the Jets vs Colts with a scheduled start time of 8:00pm EST also on NBC. Online sportsbooks have opened with New Orleans as a 10.5-point road favorite in NFL odds vs Seattle with an over/under betting total of 44.5. Sportsbooks also favor the Saints -600 in money line NFL picks for Saturday's NFC wild card weekend game vs the Seahawks +450.
The Seahawks enter the 2010-11 NFL playoffs as the only team in history with a losing record to play for the Vince Lombardi trophy. Seattle finished the season 7-9 straight up with 3 losses in their last 4 games but did pull off the 16-6 upset vs the St. Louis Rams as 3.5-point underdogs in NFL odds to finish 7-9 ATS for the season and take the NFC West division title. Although Charlie Whitehurst added the finishing touches to the season going 22-36 for 192-yards and a touchdown in the win vs St. Louis, head coach Pete Carrol said this week that QB Matt Hasselbeck should be rested and ready to start Saturday's wild card weekend game vs the Saints. Hasselback has won four of his last home season starts and the Seahawks will need a similar performance having gone 2-5 against the spread in NFL picks to finish the season.
Well, it's put up or shut up time for the Saints. Despite what many sports handicappers would call a disappointing season, New Orleans still managed to go 11-5 straight up in NFL odds for the season to take the NFC South divisional title. The Saints finished the regular season at home on January 2nd and lost 13-23 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as 6.5-point favorites in NFL picks to go a dismal 6-10 ATS for the season. New Orleans has had to overcome numerous injuries this season and unfortunately will need to do so once again in Saturday's NFC Wild Card game if they are to do so again. RB's Chris Ivory and Pierre Thomas had just returned to the Saints lineup from numerous injuries but both will be out once again vs the Seahawks with ankle and foot problems.
