![]() Belmont Park will be the site for the Grade II Bowling Green Breeders Cup odds this weekend. The race will be for 3-year-olds and older with a horse betting purse of $150,000 and is one and 3/8 miles in length. A total of 11 horses will take to the starting gate with online racebooks listing Winchester as the betting favorite at 2/1. Winchester will start from gate 5 and is trained by Christopher Clement and will be mounted by Cornelio Velasquez. Winchester is coming off a disappointing 3rd place finish in the United Nations Grade I race at Monmouth, which followed a win in the Grade I Manhattan Handicap at Belmont. The second horse betting choice in 2010 Bowling Green Breeders Cup odds is Al Khali at 4/1. Al Khali will break from post 3 and is trained by William Mott and will be mounted by Julien Leparoux. Al Khali is coming off a 3rd place finish in the marathon mile and one half Grade I Sword Dancer at Saratoga last month but was the winner before that in a mile and 1/16 claimer at Belmont. “We thought he might be one who could get the trip,” said Mott, a Hall of Fame trainer of the Sword Dancer finish in comparison to Saturday’s upcoming race. “It looks like that last furlong may have stretched him out a little, but a mile and three eights might be in his range.” Winchester has not run since July 3rd and could be refreshed. “He’s had the summer off, but he’s ready to go,” said Clement. Strike a Deal is a 6/1 horse betting choice from post 4 while Grand Couturier is an 8/1 betting favorite at post 2. Strike a Deal was the 2009 winner of the Grade II Red Smith while Grand Couturier is the defending champion of the Bowling Green. |
