![]() The San Jose State Spartans have the toughest opening two weeks in all of college football. Last week the Spartans were destroyed at number one Alabama 3-48 as 38.5-point road college football betting underdogs. It doesn’t get much easier in week 2 odds as they travel for a match-up against the 12th ranked Wisconsin Badgers, who are coming off a 41-21 win at UNLV in which they failed to bring home the cash by a half a point as 20.5-point favorites. Online sportsbooks have opened with Wisconsin as a 38-point college football betting favorite and a betting total of 56 with kick-off on ESPN scheduled for 12:00pm EST. Wisconsin took a while to really get rolling last week in Vegas but closed strong and dominated the Rebels with a 475-217 yardage advantage and pounded UNLV with 278 yards on the ground. Junior running back John Clay had his 7th consecutive 100-yard game as he had 17 carries for 123 yards and 2 TD’s despite needing IV fluids on Friday due to illness. Wisconsin is loaded with big backs and even bigger linemen. San Jose State has gone just 18-35 against the college football betting spread as a road underdog since 2001 with 7 consecutive failures. The Spartans have failed to get the money in 7 out of their last 10 non conference games. They have also paid off gamblers in just 6 out of their last 20 games when coming off a straight up loss. Coach Mike MacIntyre said about the tough schedule, “It helped us in recruiting and gave us a lot of exposure this week all over the country.” The Badgers are undefeated in home openers since 2006 and have been break even with the NCAA football lines the past 3 seasons both as home favorites and in non conference action. These two teams last met in 1997 as the Badgers scored a 56-10 road win. |
