LSU vs UNC: Week 1 Lines

A dream season looks ruined before it has even begun while a coach on the hot seat may find it is considerably cooler by the end of tonight. The 18th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels will meet the #21 LSU Tigers at the Georgia Dome in the kick-off classic. The game can be seen at 8:05pm EST on ABC and LSU has opened at online sportsbooks as a 8-point favorite in college football predictions with an over/under betting total of 43. The money line has opened with LSU at -340 in college football lines for week 1 while North Carolina is listed as a +270 underdog. The reason that the lower ranked team is such a big favorite is that North Carolina’s roster is now decimated due to suspensions and potential ineligibility issues due to an academic fraud case that blew wide open last week.

This came on the heels of agent/player contact issues that surfaced over the summer. All of it has combined to probably destroy what was to be a breakout season for UNC in 2010 college football predictions. “We are disappointed the player’s choices have denied them the opportunity to compete alongside their teammates and represent the University of North Carolina,” said head coach Butch Davis heading into week 1 as almost double-digit college football betting underdogs. “Our coaches and players have a tremendous challenge this weekend, and despite these circumstances, our team will be excited to face LSU.”

LSU coach Les Miles is on the hot seat as the program has been erratic since the 2007 BCS championship run. While the Tigers are talented and have bowled each season since fans are upset that the program is not keeping pace with Alabama and former LSU head coach Nick Saban. Quarterback Jordan Jefferson will be a key to the hopes of LSU after throwing for 2,166 yards and 17 TD’s last year. The junior will be in his second season as the starter. The two teams last met in 1986 and LSU is 5-1 all time in college football lines against UNC.
