![]() A coach under fire will try and turn his career around starting today as Rich Rodriguez and the Michigan Wolverines host the Connecticut Huskies. Kick-off on ABC is schedule for 3:35pm EST and online sportsbooks have opened with Michigan as a 3.5-point favorite in college football predictions with an over/under sports betting odds total of 52.5. Michigan is also a -160 money line favorite while Connecticut is listed as a +140 underdog on the money line. Rodriguez arrived in Michigan after a highly successful 2007 college football betting season at West Virginia in which he had a shot at the BCS title game in the regular season finale before losing to Pitt. His life has not been the same since. Rodriguez was sued by his Alma Mater for leaving under contract and had to pay over $2 million of the buyout himself. He has since gone on to preside over the worst 2-year period in college football odds at Michigan. Rodriguez has tried to change Michigan tradition with his spread offense and it has been a struggle as the roster had no players recruited for such a scheme. The defense has been a sieve under his watch and enters this year with a defensive backfield decimated by injuries. Today Michigan will open a remodeled “Big House” against a UConn team that is coming off a 3 consecutive bowl seasons and one that is primed to make a run for the Big East title. As Michigan enters the season opener as field-goal favorites in sports betting odds, their quarterback position is still unsettled as sophomores Denard Robinson and last year’s starter Tate Forcier along with freshman Devin Garner could all see time. UConn ended the 2009 season with a 4-game winning streak and showed character as they played through the mid-season murder of defensive back Jasper Howard. Junior running back Jordan Todman rushed for 1,237 yards and 14 TD’s last year. |
