Pitt vs Utah: Week 1 Lines

Versus will feature a Thursday night college football opener that may be the most attractive of them all as Utah vs Pitt kicks off at 8:35pm EST and online sportsbooks opened with Utah as a 3-point favorite in week 1 college football lines with an over/under sports betting total of 48.5. These two teams last met in the 2004 Fiesta Bowl that Utah won 35-7. Pitt has only 5 starters back on offense and 6 on defense and will have a new starter at quarterback with sophomore Tino Sunseri but is expected to be one of the college football betting favorites to win the Big East title for 2010 as head coach Dave Wannstedt’s recruiting has been better each season since he took over in 2005.

The big returnee is sophomore running back Dion Lewis who ran for 1,862 yards and 17 TD’s last year while winning 2nd Team All America honors. Junior wideout Jon Baldwin also returns after amassing 1,111 yards and 8 TD’s with a 19.5 YPC average in 2009 to give Sunseri plenty of support. The offense averaged 32-points per game and could very well match that while the defense looks to cut down on the 19.8 PPG from last year. Pitt has covered the college football lines for 7 out of their last 9 road games.

Utah is coming off back to back double digit winning seasons as they were 10-3 last year and have 8 starters back on offense led by sophomore QB Jordan Wynn , who gained valuable experience last year as he started the final 5 games. Senior running back Eddie Wide returns after gaining 1,101 yards in 2009 while winning 1st Team Mountain West honors. The defense has only 4 starters back to a unit that allowed 20 PPG last year. Utah has been a 50% play as a home sports betting favorite since 2000 including 3-3 last year.
