Chivas USA vs D.C. United: MLS Soccer Betting Odds

Chivas USA vs D.C. United

As the season winds down, two teams desperately looking for points will take the pitch tonight when Chivas USA vs D.C. United kicks off at 10:00pm EST from The Home Depot Center in a game that can be seen on ESPN2 HD. Online sportsbooks have Chivas USA -130 favorites in MLS soccer betting odds vs DC United +325 while a draw or tie would return +240. Bookmakers also favor the Chivas -1/2 goal (-130) vs United +1/2 goal (EV) in point-spread odds while the over/under soccer betting total is listed at 2.5 UNDER (-140). Chivas sits in eighth place of the West with 19-points going 5-11-4 on the season while United is in eighth of the East with 15-points going 4-14-3 on the season. This will be the second meeting between the two this season with the first being an exciting 3-2 win for D.C. United at home on a penalty in the 89th minute.

Tonight's game on ESPN2 is a must win for Chivas looking towards the playoffs as they sit in last place of the Western conference, are four points behind Houston Dynamo for seventh and 10-points behind San Jose who are in sixth. To be fair, the red-and-whites have faced stiff competition in MLS odds recently against league leaders Dallas, Salt Lake and Columbus. Part of the problem for Chivas has been the size of their defense and tonight should be no different as 5' 10" center back Umaña will need to team up with Delgado to shut down the big 6' 1" Danny Aslop who leads United with four goals this season. Chivas will need to go on attack from the opening whistle and record the first goal as they have yet to win a game this season when they don't find the net first.

DC heads into tonight's game on ESPN2 having lost eight of their last nine matches with an interim coach that just took the position earlier this month. Up until November of 2009, Ben Olsen was one of the clubs all time leaders in most stats and is regarded as one of the most popular players in the history of the squad. After the firing of Curt Onalfo in just his first season which resulted in a 3-12-3 start, Olsen is once again in the spotlight trying to lead United back to the playoffs. "When you have these periods, you certainly have to look a little bit into the future and manage things - that's part of this job - but our focus is solely on Chivas and getting a result, said Olsen this week. "The energy is good, and we want to continue it."
