![]() UFC 118 betting on Saturday will feature a rematch for the lightweight title as champion Frankie Edgar will take on challenger BJ “The Prodigy “Penn in a rematch from their UFC 112 bout in which Edgar out-maneuvered Penn to win in a controversial unanimous decision that Penn has still not gotten over. Online sportsbooks opened with challenger Penn as a strong -300 favorite in UFC odds with the champ Edgar a +240 underdog. While Penn landed stronger punches in their last bout Edgar landed more strikes and scored two takedowns that was the difference, although many mixed martial arts observers did not agree with the judge’s scores. Penn does credit Edgar for his good tactics and has taken responsibility for his loss as an overwhelming favorite in UFC picks. Penn does also say, however, that the sport is becoming too finesse oriented and that fighters are more concerned about being wrestled down than landing power punches. “It’s crazy now, but I guess that’s the future of the sport,” said Penn. “Nobody wants to be on their back because even if a guy doesn’t do one bit of damage, he’s still going to lose the fight. That’s really affecting how fighters fight because judges, as we all know; they don’t know what they’re doing. I don’t think anyone should get points for any of the grappling positions.” Bet BJ Penn -300 as the favorite in UFC 118 betting odds vs Edgar with up to a $250 deposit bonus and 5% reload bonus. Edgar respects the legendary Penn and is ready for the rematch. “This is a totally new fight for me,” said Edgar. “I still hold BJ in high regard. I mean he’s a legend in this sport and he is still the greatest lightweight of all time. I am sharp as iron, and I think BJ is really bringing out the best of me.” Edgar also likes the underdog role. “I think my last three for four fights I’ve been the underdog,” said Edgar. “So it’s a role I’m becoming comfortable with, so I seem to perform pretty good in this position.” UFC 118 will take place from TD Garden in Boston Massachusetts and can be seen on UFCLive or UFC.com HD starting at 10pm EST. |
