NFL Predictions: 2010 New York Jets - Darrelle Revis Holdout

Darrelle Revis Holdout

The New York Jets have opened at online sportsbooks as one of the leading favorites to win in NFL predictions for the 2011 Super Bowl this upcoming February but could face a major snag in achieving that goal as Darrelle Revis, arguably the best cornerback in pro football, is still a holdout in the attempt to become the highest paid defensive back in the NFL. The Jets rode the NFL’s top ranked defense all the way to the AFC Championship Game last year and opened as a +500 NFL betting favorite to win the AFC in 2010.

They were also a -105 co-favorite with the New England Patriots to win the AFC East Division and had an over/under regular season win total of 9.5 UNDER (-125) in NFL odds. Jets owner Woody Johnson is not optimistic that a deal can be worked out in the Darrelle Revis holdout, which would be a severe blow to the Jets morale as well as to their on the field defensive capabilities. “The answer is ‘no,’” said an irritated Johnson when asked if a deal was imminent. Revis’ agents have met with Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum but to no avail. The parties remain far apart. “Well, I think based on the meeting we had last Friday, that Mike had, that’s the conclusion,” said Johnson as to the whether the talks were stalled.

“The problem in this situation (Darrelle Revis holdout) is we have a very fundamental difference of opinion on what the compensation should be,” said Tannenbaum. Jets head coach Rex Ryan wants Revis I the lineup but has tried to be as positive as he can. “If Darrelle is not here, then we’re gonna move on,” said Ryan. “We don’t make excuses. We expect to be a dominant team.” Ryan is known as one of the most brilliant defensive minds in the game and will certainly need to muster all of that and more to win the AFC without Revis.
