![]() The 2010 Seattle Seahawks opened at online sportsbooks as a 75-1 longshot in Vegas NFL predictions to win the Super Bowl for the 2010 season with an over/under regular season win total of 7.5 UNDER (-140). Last year the Seahawks finished 5-11 straight up and 6-10 against the spread in NFL odds for their only season under head coach Jim Mora, Jr. who was fired for Pete Carroll, of USC Trojan fame. Carroll now appears to be running out of LA one step ahead of the law as his former college team is now under severe probation although he said the reason he came back to the NFL was for a new challenge. Pete broke even as a head coach in previous NFL stops at New England and at the Jets. Carroll inherits a team with plenty of question marks in NFL betting odds but also a team that plays in a weak division. Seattle finished a dreadful 25th in the NFL for both scoring offense and defense and 26th in turnover ratio. To say it was a mess would be an understatement. Matt Hasselbeck will face a challenge from Charlie Whitehurst for the starting quarterback gig this year as Carroll wants more mobility and a quarterback that will roll out and bootleg. Hasselbeck will be 35 years old and has struggled with injuries. The team will face a massive restructuring on the roster that may make success hard to attain as 75-1 longshots in predictions when you also consider the transition in tactics. After a 10 win season in NFL picks for the 2007 season, the Seahawks won 4 games in 2008 and 5 last year, which is an indicator that the franchise is done in its old form. The roster is young and thin and Carroll will need to muster all of his skills as a coach that can motivate and teach young players. |
