2010 Kansas City Chiefs: Predictions and NFL Super Bowl Odds

2010 Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached rock bottom with NFL betting win totals of 4, 2, and 4 in the past 3 seasons after limping into the 2006 playoffs as a wild card team. The Carl Peterson/Herm Edwards regime was cleaned out after 2008 and last year was the first in a massive transition for the entire franchise who will play at refurbished Arrowhead Stadium this year. Scott Pioli arrived from New England to run the Chiefs and he hired Todd Haley as head coach after he was the successful offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl losing Arizona Cardinals. The 2010 Kansas City Chiefs have opened in NFL predictions at online sportsbooks as a 90-1 longshot to win in NFL Super Bowl odds with an over/under regular season win total of 6.5 OVER (-140).

Pioli also acquired quarterback Matt Cassel from the Patriots to lead KC’s new era offense. The growing pains were obvious and the Chiefs covered just 7 games in NFL odds. Yet there is hope for a big leap forward heading into the Chiefs NFL schedule. A big leap is needed as KC finished near the bottom in all important categories on both sides of the line. Haley has worked out many the kinks that were part of his first year as a head man. Charlie Weiss has arrived to coordinate the offense while Romeo Crennel will take over the defense. Weiss and Crennel were with Pioli during the New England Super Bowl years.

Cassel had a very rough start and took a beating but improved at year’s end and should benefit from Weiss’ tutelage. Jamaal Charles had a great season in which he ran for 1,120 yards and 7 touchdowns. The addition of Thomas Jones from the Jets adds considerable depth to the running back corps and will help take heat off Cassel. Kansas City benefits in NFL predictions from playing in the AFC West, one of the weakest divisions in the league. If they can gel and improve quickly and build momentum they could be a surprise team and great board value.
