The Greenbrier Classic Odds 2010: Jim Furyk Golf Betting Favorite

The Greenbrier Classic Odds

Golf betting handicappers will turn their attention this weekend to The Old White Course at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia for the Greenbrier Classic odds 2010 as a total of 500 FedExCup points will be on the line with a $6,000,000 prize pool. This is the first tournament at the once elite Greenbrier course in 15 years as owner Jim Justice vowed to get a PGA Tournament back for the area. The resort is home to a 721 room hotel that once was occupied by Presidents and royalty. The tournament replaces the Buick Open. Jim Furyk is the golf betting favorite at online sportsbooks with Greenbrier Classic odds of 10-1 with Matt Kuchar next at 16-1. Ben Crane and Jeff Overton are the third choices at 23-1.

Jim Furyk is ranked 5th in the Official World Golf Ranking, which is the best in the field for the Greenbrier Classic odds. He has slumped a bit as of late but is playing close to his home and has to be considered a legitimate threat. Matt Kuchar is a potentially strong value in golf betting odds with 4 top 10 finishes in 5 starts and tied for 4th place in the recent Canadian Open. He is in 7th place for both earnings and the FedExCup standings and is still looking for that elusive first win. Furyk has the advantage of many of the big names not wanting to commit to this new tournament, which thins the field of threats. A win could put him over Ernie Els and into the top spot heading into the playoffs.

“To win and vault to No. 1 and basically be cemented in one of those top three spots for sure is a bonus,” said Furyk, who has won at Hilton Head and at the Transitions Championship this year. “But first and foremost it would be great to have a three win season. I’ve never had one.” Nick Watney was the biggest name to be a late scratch for this weekend’s tournament. Many in golf are looking forward to the return of the tour to the Old White Course where Sam Snead, among many legends of the past, used to live nearby. Action begins Thursday and runs through Sunday and can be seen on the Golf Channel or CBS.
