![]() After a horrible 2008 season the Jacksonville Jaguars cleaned house and went with a youth movement that included 17 new players that had them standing at 7-5 in NFL picks and in playoff position at the three quarter pole of the 2009 NFL race. The young Jaguars tired out and fell flat down the stretch however, losing their final 4 games to finish 7-9 and with just 5 payouts in NFL betting odds for the 2009 campaign. The 2010 Jacksonville Jaguars enter as a 75-1 longshot in NFL predictions at online sportsbooks to win the Super Bowl with an over/under win total of 7 UNDER (-125) and plenty of optimism about their chances to improve and make the playoffs this season. The offense ranked 10th in rushing, 19th in passing and 24th in scoring for NFL odds last season but now Dirk Koetter now has total control as offensive coordinator. Quarterback David Gerrard has taken heat for inconsistent play and a less than stellar work ethic as he enters his 4th year on the job. His job could be in jeopardy with a bad start and Luke McCown is the alternative. Maurice Jones-Drew had a fine season at running back with almost 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also caught 53 passes. Another big year in NFL picks is expected from Jones-Drew and improved play at quarterback could make the entire offense difficult to defend. The defense was in the bottom third of NFL betting odds in most categories and ranked 24th for points allowed. Head coach Jack Del Rio will take over most of the coordination including play calls and is likely to bring a more aggressive style to the unit that was dead last in sacks for 2009. Del Rio may need a playoff season to keep his job but there is enough here in a division of parity (AFC South) that could get them into post season play if Gerrard comes through. |
