![]() Online sportsbooks continue to reflect the respect of the gambling public towards the 2010 New England Patriots, who are a perennial championship contender from the AFC East. Sportsbooks have opened with New England as a 10-1 choice in Super Bowl odds looking at the 2010 Patriots NFL schedule. New England’s over/under win total for the 2010 season in NFL predictions is set at 9.5 OVER (-125). The Patriots were again the AFC East Division champions for 2009 as they finished 10-6 straight up and 8-7-1 against the spread in NFL betting odds with just 5 of those games going over the total. While their consistency over the years under coach Bill Belichick has been remarkable the Patriots have shown signs that they are a fading and aging team. They have also not been the same since their epic 2007 undefeated season in NFL odds that ended with a stunning upset in the Super Bowl against the New York Giants. New England was exposed in their blowout playoff loss at home against the Baltimore Ravens as not being as physical as in the past as they looked helpless and bland. But they enter the 2010 with plenty of weapons and play in a division that they can win again. Along with Belichick, any conversation about the Patriots begins with quarterback Tom Brady, who passed for close to 4400 yards with 28 touchdowns last year. It was a nice recovery for Brady after he missed 2008 due to an opening day injury. The one-two receiving combo of veteran Randy Moss and Wes Welker were both well over 1,000 yards but Welker’s status is questionable due to a bad knee. The offense ranked 3rd overall in NFL odds but the running game was basically done by committee and must improve. The defense re-tooled last year and was often inconsistent and the victim of big plays. Improvement is expected as the unit is more seasoned. While the New York Jets are the trendy pick for the AFC East the Patriots are the proven commodity with a superior quarterback. |
