![]() Marty Schottenheimer, Steve Spurrier, and now Mike Shanahan are some of the highly respected coaches who agreed to take the big money from Washington owner Dan Snyder and coach his Washington Redskins to the promise land in NFL picks. There have been plenty of big name players as well who have marched through Redskin Park. The latest one to join for the 2010 season is quarterback Donovan McNabb. He arrives after leading the Philadelphia Eagles to the playoffs in NFL betting for 8 seasons. The problem for Washington has been that big name big money personnel have never equated to success on the field. Online sportsbooks have the 2010 Washington Redskins 35-1 longshots in NFL predictions to win the Super Bowl with a regular season over/under total of 7.5 OVER (-120). Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls at Denver, was promised full control, which would be a first for a Snyder coach. It should also be pointed out heading into 2010 NFL predictions, that Shanahan did not do all that well when given the keys to the entire Denver operation and was more effective early on when he was just coaching. Shanahan’s son Kyle will coordinate the offense, which may cause concern until and if he proves himself to be as clever as his old man. General Manager Bruce Allen, son of the late George Allen, a legendary Redskins coach, also adds credibility for a new era. McNabb has impressed everyone with his professionalism since arriving but has an aging running back corps to deal with. Another problem is an offensive line that has been like a sieve for opposing pass rushes. Jim Haslett arrives with Shanahan to coordinate the defense and is expected to bring a more aggressive approach. The defense was actually not bad last year but nowhere near dominant. Washington finished a dreadful 4-12 season last year and covered the spread 6 times in NFL picks. It was a humiliating season for ex coach Jim Zorn who was publicly emasculated in mid season when he was stripped of his play calling duties. With Allen, Shanahan, and McNabb there is a new credibility factor that may make the Redskins better…someday. |
