![]() The New York Jets had a phenomenal season in the debut of head coach Rex Ryan as they made the playoffs and nearly pulled off an upset in NFL picks at Indianapolis in the AFC Championship game. The recipe for success was a powerful running game and a tough defense which covered for the mistaken prone rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Online sportsbooks have opened with the 2010 New York Jets as a 11-1 favorite in NFL predictions to win the Super Bowl with an over/under regular season win total of 9.5 OVER (-125) in NFL betting odds. The problem that sports handicappers may face with the Jets this year is that, unlike in 2009, they will not be catching anyone asleep. The element of surprise is gone and expectations are high which could pose value problems on the board for the Jets and their backers. The Jets may have also brought potential trouble among themselves in NFL predictions with the off season acquisition of cornerback Antonio Cromartie from San Diego and receiver Santonio Holmes from Pittsburgh. Both bring off the field baggage with them but the Jets believe it will not be a factor. Ryan is rather unapologetic about his “ground and pound” offense that emphasized the run. One big minus was the off season loss of running back Thomas Jones, who signed as a free agent with Kansas City after rushing for over 1,400 yards. Veteran RB LaDanian Tomlinson was signed from San Diego but is coming off his worst year as a pro. The Jets had the number one rushing attack in NFL odds last year. Sanchez had a 12/20 TD/INT ratio which must improve if they Jets are to be taken seriously in NFL picks. Sanchez has a deep and talented receiving corps to work with. The defense is aggressive and was the top ranked unit in the NFL last year. It is the key to the Jets success and the reason that they are among the favorites to win it all. The Jets had a great 2009 but 2010 will be the test as to if they are a consistent contender or an over-valued pretender. |
