![]() The return of the Cleveland Browns II franchise that emerged after the first version became the Baltimore Ravens has not been a success story as losing NFL betting records have become the new tradition of this franchise. Cleveland last made the playoffs in 2002 and are not expected to do much again this year in NFL predictions as online sportsbooks have the 2010 Browns a 100-1 longshot to win in Super Bowl odds with an over/under betting total of 5.5 UNDER (-120). Last year Cleveland finished 5-11 straight up but proved to be a better NFL betting value by going 10-6 against the spread. Despite not being popular or respected much, maligned coach Eric Mangini kept the team together in his first year on the job as the Browns did not quit and won their last 4 games of the season. Mike Holmgren has arrived after a year off from Seattle, where he had mixed success as head coach and director of football operations. Holmgren still carries a lot of “street cred” for leading the Seahawks to the 2005 season AFC title and for winning in Super Bowl odds as head coach of Green Bay. Holmgren retained Mangini and then got him a new quarterback as Jake Delhomme arrives after bombing out last year with Carolina. At age 35, there are questions as to if he is through but Holmgren won’t ask him to carry the team, just fit into the system. As bad as Delhomme was last year, the Browns were even worse as they finished 32nd overall in NFL odds for total offense and points scored. The defense wasn’t much better as it ranked 31st in total yards in the league. One bright spot last year was kick return man Josh Cribbs who emerged as one of the best in the game and a much needed breakaway weapon. The Browns should have a good future under Holmgren although 2010 is unlikely to prove it. |
