![]() On the heels of their highly successful 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference championship season many sports handicappers and fans may be surprised to see the 2010 Georgia Tech squad as a 75-1 longshot at online sportsbooks in college football odds to win the BCS. But the question as to why is quickly answered as the ACC is much improved and tougher this year and the Ramblin’ Wreck plays a tough conference schedule that will make it difficult to come out unscathed. Paul Johnson has given Tech fans immediate results in his 2 previous seasons on the job as he went 9-4 straight up for his first year before last year’s 11-3 mark in college football predictions and conference title. Johnson made his name at Navy where his option offense took the Midshipmen to regular bowl appearances. The option has paid off handsomely for the Yellow Jackets and gamblers who have been paid 16 out of 24 times in college football odds during the Johnson era. Tech returns 6 starters on an offense that scored 34 points per game including 1st team All ACC quarterback Joshua Nesbitt, a senior who ran for 1205 yards and passed for 1701 more. The defense will return 8 starters and should improve from last year’s 25 points per game allowed. Punt returner Jerrard Tarrant returns after a fine season in which he averaged over 13 yards per return with 2 touchdowns. Tech will face a daunting challenge in the ever tough Coastal Division as Miami, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina are all improved and contenders for the ACC title, if not more. Georgia Tech’s schedule includes road games at North Carolina, Wake Forest, Clemson, and Virginia Tech in ACC play as well as the non conference finale at SEC contender Georgia, which makes it unlikely that they can go undefeated, or even finish with just 1 loss. |
