WSOP 2010 Main Event: Hellmuth Enters As Boxer

Phil Hellmuth entered the 2010 WSOP dressed as a Caesar.

The 2010 World Series of Poker* continues from Las Vegas with the main event that began on Wednesday but with plenty of additional entries yet to come. Play will run through Saturday and then continue on Monday after a well earned day off on Sunday. Phil “The Poker Brat” Hellmuth caused quite a stir as he entered action looking more like a championship boxer than a poker player as he strode in with a robe and mixed martial arts gloves. This is standard fare for Hellmuth, who is famous for his daring play and bluffs as in the past he has entered the poker room dressed as Julius Caesar and General George Patton.

Hellmuth is the 1989 WSOP* Main Event champion and is well respected in tournament play but old school legend Doyle Brunson was not at all impressed with Hellmuth’s antics enterning the WSOP 2010. “I’m glad I’m not playing today so I won’t see Hellmuth make a fool out of himself with his entrance,” said the hall of famer Brunson. “I can’t help thinking it’s terrible.” Hellmuth was charitable in his response as he said that he has enjoyed adult beverages with Brunson before. Brunson countered that while he loves Hellmuth, 99% of the people that he has communicated with agree with his take. Hellmuth said that he makes such loud entrances to liven things up as he admits that poker is often “slow.” The final four days of the Main Event are far and away the busiest for the World Series of Poker. Entries are expected to top 7,000 contestants. The record was in 2006 when 8,773 entered the Main Event. Poker Headlines

Anticipation and intrigue continues to grow for the WSOP 2010 November Nine that will take place this fall on ESPN as the main event final table poker odds are already being handicapped. Jason Senti will have one of the toughest assignments of the November Nine as he will enter action with the lowest chip count

Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi was just that at the World Series of Poker* in Las Vegas in July as he had to play through a short stack and an 18 hour marathon to earn a spot at poker’s most coveted table, the November Nine. Mizrachi will have to continue his grinding ways

Out of the many thousands of entries in the 2010 World Series of Poker* only the “November Nine” remain at the final table in Las Vegas. The lineup is led by Michael Mizrachi, who has emerged from wonder boy status in 2005 to being on the cusp of a remarkable opportunity to win the Players’
