![]() With only three days left before kick-off for the largest and most anticipated tournament in the World, the host team of South Africa and its fans are optimistic of their chances in 2010 World Cup odds. South Africa was drawn into the tough Group A bracket alongside 1998 champions France, Mexico and Uruguay. A survey done in South Africa polled the fans of Bafana Bafana and not surprisingly, 63% of those polled will be cheering on the host country while 13% of those questioned believe that South Africa will win. “If you had asked me five months ago if we were ready, I would have told you that no, we have a long way to go," said head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira. "But today, I'm happy with the progress, we are up there, we are ready for the task that awaits us." The Brazilian coach has brought with him a sense of South American pride which has progressed onto the field where South Africa has won 12 straight matches in an eight-month period in International friendlies including a 1-0 win over Denmark on Saturday. Bet South Africa +180 vs Mexico in their Group A bracket first round match and 150-1 in World Cup odds to win the finals. It will be up to Katlego Mphela (Mamelodi Sundowns), Bernard Parker (FC Twente) and Siyabonga Nomvete (Moroko Swallows) to find the net for Bafana Bafana while Steven Pienaar (Everton), Teko Modise (Orlando Pirates) will sweep the midfield with Siboniso Gaxa (Mamelodi Sundowns), Matthew Booth (Mamelodi Sundowns) guarding the box and Itumeleng Khune (Kaiser Chiefs) in goal. Parreira has cut Benni McCarthy (West Ham United) from his final roster as the striker has been overweight and not in the best of fitness for the upcoming games.
