![]() While their 2005 World Series title was a fantastic feat the Chicago White Sox have been cursed, in a way, with that championship as they have never again been able to meet the lofty expectations that were triggered by that season and have fallen into the trap of being known as a “one hit wonder.” Chicago opens the 2010 season as 18-1 longshots in 2010 World Series odds. The White Sox are coming off a disappointing season in which they went 79-83 while finishing third in the American League Central Division. Chicago suffered an epic collapse in the second half of the season after contending for the top spot for most of the summer. The question in 2010 World Series odds is which White Sox team will show up? There are some areas of hope for Chicago starting with right hand starting pitcher Jake Peavy, who made his name as a member of the San Diego Padres. Peavey was injured for much of last year but was highly effective in his limited role with the White Sox as he went 3-0 with a 1.35 earned run average. He has a career record of 95-68 with a 3.26 earned run average and is slated to be the number one starter in the rotation. Left hand starter Mark Buehrle is the number two starter and gives the White Sox one of the best 1-2 combinations of any rotation to win the 2010 World Series. Buehrle was 13-10 last year with a 3.84 earned run average and has a career mark of 135-97 with a 3.80 earned run average. He is a 4 time All-Star for the White Sox. Yet another asset in the rotation is right hander Gavin Floyd who went 11-11 last year with a 4.06 earned run average after a 2008 season in which he went 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA. If the White Sox can improve on their ranking of 19th in run production last year another pennant could fly above US Cellular Field. |
