2010 South Region NCAA Tournament Bracket Odds

The Duke Blue Devils are 1-1 betting favorites to win the South region in 2010 NCAA tournament bracket odds.

The easiest of the four regions in 2010 NCAA Tournament bracket odds is definitely the South where #1 seed Duke is a heavy favorite. The Blue Devils have such an easy path that they are the even money favorite in college basketball odds at online sportsbooks to win this region. Nothing is ever “easy” in the NCAA Tournament but there is no question that the tournament committee did Duke a lot of favors. The second seed in the South region is Villanova and they are not as good as they were a year ago. The Wildcats are the 3-1 second choice at online sportsbooks.

Duke is a very talented team led by Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith. The Blue Devils are not the overall top seed in 2010 NCAA Tournament odds but they get Arkansas Pine Bluff in the first round and it is usually the top seed that gets to face the play-in winner. So it should have been Kansas playing Arkansas Pine Bluff. Duke should have no trouble in the opener and they will face the winner of California and Louisville in the second round. Although both Cal and Louisville have talent, they are both very inconsistent and the Blue Devils should make the Sweet Sixteen without too much trouble.

Villanova should get past Robert Morris in their opening round game at the bottom of this region and they would then face the winner of Richmond and St. Mary’s. That is a much tougher game and the Wildcats are no lock to make it out of the second round. Villanova does have Scottie Reynolds though, so they can never be counted out. Baylor is the third seed in this region and they have a lot of talent but very little experience. There is no question the Bears can reach the Sweet Sixteen and beyond. Stage fright is the only concern for Baylor. The Bears are 11-2 to win the South Region in 2010 NCAA Tournament bracket odds. The weakest of the #4 seeds in this tournament is definitely Purdue. They were a national title contender until Robbie Hummel got hurt. Now they may not make it out of the first round. The Boilermakers are also getting no respect on the odds board either as they are 16-1 in South Region 2010 NCAA Tournament bracket odds.

A better team and one that could upset this entire region is Texas A&M. They play defense and can rebound. If they can hit some outside shots they can win this region as the number five seed. They are 18-1 to win this region and a better bet than Purdue. Sixth-seeded Notre Dame also has a chance since they have Luke Harangody. The Irish have some value at 25-1. Richmond has some talent but probably not enough to win the South region as the #7 seed. California and Louisville are too inconsistent to win this region. St. Mary’s also has some talent but probably not enough to win four games in a row. Old Dominion, Utah State, Siena, Sam Houston, Robert Morris and Arkansas Pine Bluff are big longshots.
