The Georgetown Hoyas were posted at 25-1 in odds to win the 2010 NCAA tournament but have enough ability to be considered as a solid longshot in March madness picks for the 64 team field. Georgetown enters the 2010 NCAA tournament with an overall record of 23-10 straight up and 17-12 against the spread. The Hoyas have excellent momentum heading into this year's tourney as they have covered their last 5 consecutive games heading into the Big Dance. Georgetown was an impressive 9-5 against the spread on the road and went 12-8 as a college basketball betting favorite while going 5-4 against the spread as an underdog. Georgetown was a break even team on over/unders this year and went under the total in 6 out of 10 away games for the 2009-10 season. The Hoyas are coming off an impressive performance in the Big East Conference tournament in which they finished as a close runner up to West Virginia in a 58-60 loss. They defeated Big East heavyweights Syracuse and Marquette to get into that title game which is quite a way to pad a March Madness resume and enhance credibility with gamblers. Georgetown had non conference wins over Butler, Washington and Duke while also scoring big win over teams like Louisville, Villanova and Pittsburgh in addition to their Big East conference tournament wins. The Hoyas are a well balanced team that finished in the upper quarter of the national rankings for both offense and defense. They were one of the best three point shooting teams in the land and a strong defensive rebounding team. Guard Austin Freeman led the Hoyas with 16.7 points per game and was .53% from 3-point range. Center Greg Monroe averaged 16.1 points per game and also led the team in rebounds with an impressive 9.5 per game. Georgetown will face the Ohio Bobcats in their first round game on Thursday, March 18th at 7:25pm EST in a game that can be seen on CBS with online sportsbooks listing the Hoyas as 13.5 favorites. Georgetown was defeated 60-58 by West Virginia in the Big East title game last Saturday as 2.5-point underdogs in college basketball betting odds. The combined score went UNDER the posted total of 132.5 at sportsbooks while Chris Wright had 20 points and dished out seven assists for Georgetown in the loss. Vegas odds for the 2010 NCAA tournament have the Georgetown Hoyas 20-1 in March madness picks. |
