It is very easy when playing online poker to focus on your own hand and nothing else. You can refer to this as tunnel vision. It is where you see nothing but what is in front of you. You can easily get so focused on your own hand when playing online poker that you don’t see anything else. You don’t read the board properly and you don’t even consider what other players may have. Tunnel vision can cause you to lose big pots because you don’t see the big picture. Tunnel vision is something that needs to be avoided when playing online poker. You can easily get tunnel vision if you are not diligent. For example, let’s say you get dealt an ace. For some people it doesn’t matter what the other card is, they are going to play the hand. They see the ace and begin to bet. They get so focused on the ace that they forget everything else. The same thing happens with other cards. A big pair looks great before the flop but so many players focus on that pair of aces or kings that they don’t even look at the flop and realize they could be in trouble. Tunnel vision in online poker is very common and very hard to get away from if you are not focused. It is so easy to look at your own hand and ignore the rest of the board and the rest of the players. What you need to do is become better at looking at other things. You may not even want to look at your own two cards until it is your turn. Focus on the players and their reactions and not your own hand. Another way to avoid tunnel vision is to focus on your opponent’s hand instead of your own. What could he have and why is he betting? If you can keep the focus away from your own hand you will avoid tunnel vision and become a better poker player. There is some good news regarding tunnel vision. You can oftentimes tell which other online poker players at the table have tunnel vision. Those players are easy to read and you can win money against them. They make obvious plays and don’t think about anything other than their own hand. Those are the players that you can beat in online poker. |
