Golf Betting: 2010 Accenture Match Play Championship Odds

2010 Accenture Match Play Odds

One of the most popular events of the PGA golf betting season is the Accenture Match Play Championship odds simply because it has a unique format that is similar to the men’s college basketball tournament. The players are seeded number 1 through 64 with the top seed playing the 64th seed and so on down the line. It is a one and done format over 18 holes with the winners advancing to the next round with the final being 36 holes. The Golf Channel has TV coverage on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday while CBS picks up the coverage on Saturday and Sunday.

There are a lot of options in 2010 Accenture Match Play odds for this event which is another reason it is very popular. Online sportsbooks have golf betting odds to win the overall event in addition to individual match-ups, top European player, top American player, etc. The event is missing the top two players in the world as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have withdrawn. That means a very competitive golf betting odds board where three players are co-favorites. Steve Stricker, Geoff Ogilvy and Rory McIlroy are each 16-1 at online sportsbooks. Losing Mickelson is no big deal since he has never even reached the semifinals but Woods has won the event three times and would have been the favorite.

Looking at the stats is something you definitely want to do when trying to find a winner in Accenture match play odds but sometimes specialized stats are better. You want a player that has won in match play before and a younger player. Since the tournament began in 1999, there has never been a winner over 38 years old. That makes sense since the winner will have to play seven rounds in five days. Stricker might be the one to break that streak since he is in great form. Ogilvy might be the better choice though since he has a record of 17-2 in his matches in this event and he has also won two of the last four match play titles.

McIlroy has the talent but there are questions about his back injury so he is a risk at 16-1. The top four seeds in this event are Stricker, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Jim Furyk. Westwood is 18-1 in 2010 Accenture golf betting odds; Kaymer is 20-1 while Furyk is 33-1. Westwood has never made the third round of this event in his previous nine tries so he is overvalued at 18-1. Other contenders include Paul Casey who was second last year and Henrik Stenson who won in 2007 and finished second to Tiger in 2008. Casey is 20-1 in 2010 Accenture Match-Play odds while Stenson is 28-1 at online sportsbooks for this weekend's golf betting action.
