Bode Miller is hoping that the 2010 Winter Olympics are a lot better than four years ago when he was shut out. Miller was a brash young kid that ran his mouth four years ago and he was slapped back down to reality with nothing but Olympic failure. This time he is four years older and more mature as he has a two-year old daughter. He is still confident but not nearly as cocky or as much of a lone wolf heading into men's alpine downhill odds. "I'm ready to compete for medals in all five right now," Miller said, "It's going to take really good skiing, but that's no different than it usually would be. If I ski well in every event I think I can be on the podium." Miller is the third choice at 7-1 to win in men's alpine downhill odds on Saturday at 7-1.
The 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremonies will be live Friday evening on NBC with a start time of 7:30pm EST. Switzerland's Didier Cuche is the favorite at 10-3 in men's alpine downhill odds at online sportsbooks while Canada’s Manuel Osborne is the second choice at 5-1. The spotlight though is going to be on Miller and he sounds like he is better prepared to handle it this time. "Obviously you always want to win, but you want to win a race that you're proud of and you feel like you've challenged yourself and left it all out there." he said.
Three other skiers have single-digit Olympic odds to win the Alpine downhill. Sweden’s Carlo Janka, Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal and Austria’s Michael Walchhofer are all 9-1. Bodog also has some matchups available. Cuche is a -275 favorite against Miller in Olympic odds while Osborne is a -188 favorite against Janka. Switzerland has a lot of talent for the alpine skiing including Janka who is nicknamed the 'Iceman.' He won gold in the giant slalom at last year’s World Championships and bronze in the downhill. He really wants a gold medal in this year’s Olympics.
"The race will be something very special because the Olympics only come around every four years," Janka said. "But I'll try to approach it as a normal race and stay cool.” Didier Cuche posted the fastest time in training on Wednesday although only about half of the racers finished because of the weather. "Didier Cuche is the big favorite for the downhill," Janka said. "You could see that his injured thumb did not bother him. He's the one to beat on Saturday." |
