College Football: 2009 Heisman Trophy Odds

Mark Ingram and Toby Gerhart are favored to win in 2009 Heisman Trophy odds.

The 2009 Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Saturday and the two favorites are running backs Mark Ingram and Toby Gerhart. Online sportsbooks have Ingram as the 2-5 favorite in Heisman Trophy odds while Gerhart is the second choice at 7-5. While Ingram and Gerhart are the favorites, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy is right there as well at 2-1 while Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is getting some action in Heisman Trophy odds at 5-1. Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow started the year as a 2-1 favorite to win the 2009 Heisman but is now the longshot at 15-1 in college football odds.

Alabama running back Mark Ingram is now the favorite in Heisman Trophy odds. He rushed for 1,542 yards and 15 TDs this season and he carried Alabama on offense for much of the season. He was impressive in Alabama’s win over Florida in the SEC title game as he rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Gerhart outperformed Ingram this season but he is the second choice in 2009 Heisman Trophy odds. Gerhart rushed for 1,736 yards and 26 TDs. He did not get the national exposure of Ingram and it may end up hurting his chances to win the Heisman. Bet Mark Ingram 2/5 to win the 2009 Heisman Trophy with a 10% bonus.

2009 College Football Bowl Game Schedule

2009 BCS Bowl Game Television Schedule

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy threw for 3,512 yards and 27 TDs this college football season. He did have 12 interceptions though and didn’t play well in the Big 12 title game. That game may have cost him the 2009 Heisman. What helps him is his overall body of work and the fact that Texas is unbeaten. The most dominating college football player in the country was Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. If the Heisman trophy really went to the best football player in the country then Suh would win. Since it is a popularity contest and the Heisman normally goes to offensive players, he probably won’t.

Suh had 82 tackles, 23 for loss and had 12 sacks. He also had one interception and 10 pass breakups. And that was from a defensive tackle. He completely dominated the Big 12 title game and nearly won the game by himself. No exclusively defensive player has ever won the Heisman and even though he deserves it, Suh probably won’t win. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow really has no chance to win in 2009 Heisman Trophy odds. He threw for 2,413 yards and 18 TD while rushing for 859 yards and 13 TDs. Those numbers are nowhere near his 2007 numbers when he did win the award.

College football fans recall that the Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes used to play annually for a virtual National Championship not all that long ago as two of the most dominant programs of the 1980’s and 90’s. It looks as if those days are

Just last year, many online sportsbooks and handicappers and fans thought that the Vanderbilt Commodores might become the Wake Forest or Northwestern of the Southeastern Conference and contend regularly for bowl games, an occasional conference title and maybe even in college
