Breeders Cup Betting 2009 - Richard's Kid Odds and Predictions

One of the longshots who could surprise in Breeders Cup betting on Saturday is Richard’s Kid who is training as well as any horse heading into 2009 Breeders Cup odds. The horse was very impressive in his final drill going the final three-eighths in 35.05. If things set up well with the pace then Richard’s Kid could steal the Classic with Breeders betting odds of +1500. Richard’s Kid is trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert. The horse wasn’t even in line for the Classic but has done so well of late that Baffert is giving him a shot.

Baffert tried the horse in the Pacific Classic Stakes where he went off at 24-1 and won the race. “I bought him for the turf or synthetic,” Baffert said. “I ran him on the turf and he didn’t run that well, so I brought him back ten days later going a mile-and-a-half. He almost won, and that sort of woke him up. He worked well, and I thought, ‘I’m going to take a chance in the Pacific Classic.’ ” Winning the Pacific Classic got Baffert’s attention though to point the horse towards the Breeders even as a longshot. “I never had a $50 horse in a $1-million race.” he said.

Richard’s Kid was third in the Goodwood Stakes on October 10 at Santa Anita, closing well behind Gitano Hernando. “I liked his race in the Goodwood,” Baffert said. “I didn’t train him too hard up to that race. … He’s been a surprise. He likes the synthetics. It’s been a big help for him. He’s got to have things shake loose for him, maybe a horse doesn’t fire, and he needs a good trip. But he’ll be coming at the end.” Breeders Cup betting odds have Zenyatta as the +225 morning line favorite along with Rip Van Winkle and Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird at +600.

The field then gets interesting in Breeders Cup predictions with two horses at +1200 betting odds including Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird and Quality Road.
