![]() NASCAR odds are wide open for Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 at 12:00pm EST from Talladega which will be televised by ABC. Unlike past weeks when Jimmie Johnson was favored, anything can happen at Talladega with restrictor plate racing. Expect to see a crash filled race that has an exciting finish in NASCAR betting odds. Online sportsbooks have Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch as co-favorites at 7-1 in NASCAR odds. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon are co-third choices at 8-1. This is the second race at Talladega this season. In April it was rookie Brad Keselowski getting the win in NASCAR betting. You might remember that race since Carl Edwards car was up in the air at the finish. While the racing is exciting at Talladega it is oftentimes unpredictable. The top drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, including Johnson, have not had great success at Talladega. Stewart has the highest average finish in this race of the top drivers and it is only 14.2. While Stewart is a contender at 8-1 in NASCAR odds, he is not a sure thing in this race. The top drivers in the Chase did not do well in this race back in April. Johnson was 30th while Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon finished even worse. Gordon finished 37th while Martin finished 43rd. Johnson has a 118 point lead over Martin and it could grow this week if he avoids the big crash. Martin hasn’t done that well at Talladega in the past in NASCAR betting odds though. Gordon at least has a shot in this race as does Stewart. A driver to watch this week is Ryan Newman. He doesn’t have a win at Talladega but he does have seven top-10 finishes in 15 career starts. He is seventh in the points’ race and could move up with a good finish. There are some drivers that probably won’t win this week in the Amp Energy 500. Kasey Kahne is 30-1 in NASCAR odds but he may as well be 100-1 based on his past success at Talladega. He has finished 36th twice in this race and has an average finish of 23.5. Seven of his eleven starts have seen him finish 23rd or worse. It is tough to stay out of the way and play it safe at Talladega. A big wreck can occur at anytime. If Johnson gets caught up in one and one of the other contenders gets a win then the Chase for the Cup could get interesting. If you are looking for a longshot this week in NASCAR betting odds you might want to consider Marcos Ambrose who is having a solid season. He is 50-1 in NASCAR odds at online sportsbooks. Franklin's NASCAR Picks: I love me some restrictor plate racing... crashes, fights and NASCAR, what more could anyone ask for? The sportsbooks and handicappers are taking Earnhardt Jr. and Busch to win the Amp500 at Talladega but I don't agree. My NASCAR picks for Sunday's race at Talladega will be to take my man Tony Stewart 8-1. Vegas odds have been jumping around since the lines open and now have Dale Earnhardt Jr. 12-1, Kyle Busch 8-1, Tony Stewart 7-1 and Jeff Gordon 15-2 in NASCAR betting odds. |
