South Carolina at NC State on ESPN

The NC State Wolfpack hosts the South Carolina Gamecocks on Thursday at 7:05pm EST in an ESPN televised game. According to NC State head coach Tom O’Brien it is "a measuring stick" game for NC State. Last year the Wolfpack was crushed 34-0 in college football odds by South Carolina but O’Brien said this game on ESPN is not about revenge. "There's no such thing as revenge. It's our fault we lost 34-0." O’Brien said. NC State is a 5-point favorite in college football odds at sportsbooks.

NC State will have All-ACC quarterback Russell Wilson starting the game although backup Mike Glennon will play so he gets his feet wet. "Sometime during the second quarter (Glennon) will go in," O'Brien said. "Whether it's a set number of series or a feel thing, he'll definitely play in a meaningful situation in the second quarter." Overall, the Wolfpack return 14 starters from last year including wide receivers Owen Spencer and Jarvis Williams. One of their biggest losses though is linebacker Nate Irving who was hurt in a car accident over the summer. South Carolina is a mystery team in college football lines heading into the 2009 season.

This is one year that the Gamecocks are not expected to do much, so perhaps head coach Steve Spurrier will surprise some people. The Gamecocks will be missing wide receiver Dion LeCorn on Thursday and they might also be without wide receiver DeMario Bennett for this ESPN televised game. College football betting trends are not really very favorable to either team in this match-up. The Gamecocks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a road underdog but the Wolfpack are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games as a favorite. The Wolfpack are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games in September. The game could be low scoring though according to the college football odds trends.

Only one major trend has points being scored and that is the Over being 4-0 in the Gamecocks last 4 games as a road underdog. Vegas college football odds at Caesars sportsbook have NC State -5 favorites against South Carolina with a betting total of 47. The Under is 6-1 in sports odds for the Gamecocks last 7 non-conference games and the Under is 5-1-1 in the Gamecocks last 7 games in September. The Under is 8-2-1 in NC State’s last 11 games as a home favorite and the Under is 8-3-2 in the Wolfpack’s last 13 non-conference games. Expect a low scoring game in college football odds for Thursday's 7:05pm EST kickoff to the season on ESPN.
