2009 Big 12 Conference Odds

The Big 12 conference could produce some of the most exciting games and college football lines of the 2009 season. With three of the top quarterbacks in the country in Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford and Zac Robinson, points will come in bunches in the Big 12 conference. Texas and Oklahoma are co-favorites at 3-2 in college football odds to win the Big 12 at sportsbooks. The Big 12 is almost always all about Texas and Oklahoma. That will probably be the case again in 2009 but don’t sleep on Nebraska who is 5-2 in college football lines to win the Big 12 or Oklahoma State who is 8-1 at sportsbooks.

Oklahoma enters the 2009 college football betting season as one of the main national championship contenders. They return 14 starters from last year including Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford. It might not be as easy for Bradford in sports odds this season since only one starter returns from the offensive line. He does get DeMarco Murray back so the Sooners may be running the ball more in 2009. Texas also has 14 starters back from last season including Heisman runner-up Colt McCoy. Texas has a better offensive line than Oklahoma and McCoy should put up bigger numbers. He has two excellent receivers to throw to in Jordan Shipley and Malcolm Williams.

The Texas defense is going to miss Brian Orakpo so look for a lot of high scoring in college football lines when the Longhorns play this season. The season for Texas and Oklahoma probably comes down, as it normally does, to their annual meeting, this time in October. The Big 12 South has the three best teams in college football betting but only one of them is going to win the division. That means the Texas-Oklahoma winner is out in the cold as is Oklahoma State. The Cowboys return 14 starters including quarterback Zac Robinson. The Cowboys offense also returns WR Dez Bryant and RB Kendall Hunter. The key for Oklahoma State in college football odds is going to be their defense. The Cowboys might have enough offensive weapons to stay with Texas and Oklahoma in sports odds but defensively they could have trouble.

The Big 12 North should be a three-team race between Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas. The Jayhawks and Cornhuskers are 5-2 in college football lines to win the conference while Missouri is 8-1. Kansas returns 15 starters including QB Todd Reesing. The Jayhawks have to face Oklahoma and Texas this season so that hurts their chances of winning the division in college football betting. Missouri has only 9 starters returning so it will be interesting to see how they respond with new quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Nebraska returns 10 starters but only four on offense. Zac Lee will be throwing the ball this season and how successfully he is will probably decide Nebraska’s fate. Longshots in college football odds to win the Big 12 are Texas Tech at 12-1, Colorado at 15-1, Baylor at 20-1, Kansas State and Texas A&M at 30-1, and Iowa State at 75-1.
