![]() The SEC is simply loaded again in 2009 sports odds, led by national title favorite Florida who is looking to repeat. The Gators are 1-3 in college football lines to win the SEC conference this season at most sportsbooks. That is a huge number considering four other teams in the Top 15 reside within the conference. Alabama, LSU and Mississippi are all in the Top 10 while Georgia is not far behind. Florida is a huge favorite in college football lines to win the SEC East, to win the SEC conference and win in BCS odds. Florida returns quarterback Tim Tebow and all 11 starters on defense. Can you say undefeated season for the Gators? The Gators weaknesses, if they have any, are actually on the offensive side of the ball. Florida still has the super Tim Tebow but they will really miss Percy Harvin. Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey are good but it will be interesting to see how well they do behind a rebuilt offensive line. The Gators are simply great on defense. They allowed just 12.9 points per game a year ago and are even better this season. If Tebow puts up a few touchdowns each game like he normally does, the Gators are likely to run the table. Florida avoids Mississippi and Alabama in the regular season so the tough game looks to be at LSU. The rest of the SEC East is barely worth talking about in sports odds other than Georgia. The Bulldogs are 9-1 in college football lines to win the SEC at online sportsbooks. The Bulldogs lose Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno but they didn’t win anything of consequence with them anyway. Joe Cox will manage the game nicely and head coach Mark Richt always finds a way to win. Georgia doesn’t match up with Florida but then again, who does? The SEC West is a three-team race in college football lines with LSU 2-1, Alabama 5-4 and Mississippi 19-10. Although LSU is a slight favorite, any of these three teams could find their way to the title game against Florida. The Tigers return 13 starters including quarterback Jordan Jefferson. The Tigers obviously have a huge game against Florida but the more important college football betting game might be the one in early November at Alabama. The Crimson Tide returns 13 starters but not their quarterback John Parker Wilson. That might not sound good until you look at the qualifications of Greg McElroy. He could be even better than Wilson and lead the Tide to a national title. McElroy also has one of the best receivers in the country, Julio Jones to throw to. The defense is not as good as Florida’s but it is not far behind. The Mississippi Rebels are as highly ranked to start the season in college football odds as they have ever been. They return 15 starters including quarterback Jevan Sneed who is a Heisman Trophy candidate. The Rebels could actually have a better offense than Florida but they don’t have the Gators defense. The rest of the teams in the SEC (Kentucky 50-1, South Carolina 12-1, Tennessee 20-1, Vanderbilt 75-1, Arkansas 18-1, Auburn 7-1 and Mississippi State 75-1) are longshots. |
