![]() The Big 10 is out to prove they are still a power conference in 2009 college football odds. The conference has not done well in BCS bowl games recently going 9-20 the last four years including two BCS title game losses by Ohio State. The Big 10 hasn’t even won the Rose Bowl, their premier game in 10 years. The 2009 Big 10 odds is top heavy with Ohio State and Penn State but some surprise teams could emerge. Ohio State is the 3-2 favorite in college football odds to win the Big 10 title this season at sportsbook. Penn State is the second choice in sports betting odds at 19-10. Many people believe the conference title comes down to the game between the two teams in Happy Valley on November 7th. Ohio State returns four starters on offense and four on defense. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor is the key to the Buckeyes. Those that have watched the Buckeyes have said that Pryor has greatly improved his throwing in the off-season and that would make him a huge threat to impact college football odds this year. We will know just how good Ohio State is early, as they host USC in sports odds for their second game of the season. Penn State is the main threat to the Buckeyes in the Big 10. They have five returning starters on offense and four on defense. The key will be getting solid play out of quarterback Daryll Clark. Penn State has an excellent running back in Evan Royster. The defense for Penn State is not up to par and it might be the reason they don’t win the conference in sports betting odds. There are three other darkhorse candidates to win the Big 10 in 2009 in college football odds. Iowa and Michigan State are 5-1 while Illinois is 6-1 at sportsbooks. The Hawkeyes are a real threat in sports odds to upset the apple cart in the Big 10 this season. They return 6 starters on offense and 8 on defense. Jewel Hampton should be able to replace Shonn Green. The key for Iowa will be getting quarterback Ricky Stanzi to make good decisions. The problem for Iowa is a brutal conference schedule. Illinois is an interesting team in 2009 Big 10 college football odds. They return 14 starters including quarterback Juice Williams and wide receiver Arrelious Benn. The problem for Illinois in college football betting is that the defense just isn’t very good. Michigan State is another contender in the conference. They return 15 starters but they lost QB Brian Hoyer and RB Javon Ringer. That means they probably won’t win the Big 10 in college football odds. Longshots to win the Big 10 are Wisconsin at 8-1, Michigan at 10-1, Purdue at 15/2, Minnesota and Northwestern at 20-1 and Indiana at 60-1. |
