The West Virginia Mountaineers enter the 2009-10 season after defeating the North Carolina Tarheels 31-30 in last year’s Meineke Car Care Bowl as 1.5-point favorites in college football odds and our favored to win the Big East conference this year at online sportsbooks. The Mountaineers return second year head coach Bill Stewart along with 12 starters including RB Noel Devine, LB Reed Williams, WR/RB Jock Sanders and WR Alric Arnett just to name a few. Where the Mountaineers do lack talent in BCS odds is behind the center as Pat White is now playing with the Miami Dolphins. In his place for the 2009 season in college football betting odds will be redshirt senor Jarret Brown who will also be the starter for the first time in his career. Brown was 30-22 last year for 114 yards with one touchdown and one interception to finish the season with a quarterback rating of 109.59%. 2010 college football betting BCS odds at Sportsbook.com currently have the West Virginia Mountaineers +10000. The key to the Mountaineers offense in college football odds will depend on whether or not they can give Brown time to throw by replacing three pivotal offensive linemen including All-American Ryan Stancheck. West Virginia coaches have released their depth charts showing that redshirt Joe Madsen will be snapping to Brown under center with Jeff Braun as the backup and former center Eric Jobe now listed as right guard. Noel Devine will be behind Brown at running back for the 2009 college football betting season. Devine has ran for 1,916 yards (1,289 last year) with 6.9 yards per carry (6.3 last year) during his career with West Virginia. On defense the Mountaineers return seven starters including LB Reed Williams. Last year Williams totaled only 17 tackles after missing most of the college football season from having double shoulder surgery. Leading tackler J.T. Thomas also returns at linebacker for West Virginia in sports odds along with Scooter Berry moving from tackle to end, CB Brandon Hogan and SS Sidney Glover. West Virginia opens their college football schedule on September 5th at home against Liberty. The key games for the Mountaineers will be on October 1st when Colorado rolls into Morgantown and on November 27th when they play at home against Pittsburgh. Early college football odds at Sportsbook.com have the Mountaineers -6.5 against the Buffaloes and 3-point favorites against the Panthers. The Mountaineers are favored in college football odds to win the Big East at online sportsbooks but asking for anything more in BCS odds is probably pushing it.
