2009 Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Odds

The Philadelphia Eagles should be entertaining if nothing else in 2009 Super Bowl odds, especially after their signing of former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. The Eagles have been so close to making it to the Super Bowl, only to be denied time and time again. Philadelphia made a number of off-season changes hoping to finally get over the hump. The Eagles are 10-1 in NFL odds to win Super Bowl XLIV at online sportsbooks. The Eagles are still led by head coach Andy Reid and they still have Donovan McNabb at quarterback and Brian Westbrook at running back.

The Eagles suffered a huge loss in NFL betting odds during the off-season as long-time defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away. Sean McDermott will try and keep Philadelphia among the league leaders in defense in 2009. The Eagles offense still has McNabb at the helm and that is a good news/bad news scenario in NFL odds. McNabb can be very good but he can also be awful. That could be one reason the Eagles took a chance on signing Vick. The Eagles still rely way too much on running back Brian Westbrook and he is injury prone. They took Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy in the second round, hoping he can fill in for Westbrook this year.

The Eagles took Missouri’s Jeremy Maclin in the first round and they are hoping he teams with DeSean Jackson to give the team some deep threats. Kevin Curtis is still a starter with Jason Avant getting time as well. Brent Celek is a solid tight end. The offensive line is going to look different this year in Super Bowl odds with Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters who they got from Buffalo and with Pro Bowl right guard Shawn Andrews moving to right tackle. The team also picked up Stacy Andrews from the Bengals while Todd Herremans and Jamaal Jackson also return. Philadelphia returns a solid defensive line of Mike Patterson, Brodrick Bunkley, Trent Cole and Juqua Parker.

The Eagles suffered a huge loss at linebacker as Stewart Bradley was injured. His loss can’t be overstated in NFL odds so the Eagles are going to be weaker on defense. Chris Gocong, Akeem Jordan and Omar Gaither will look for the other spots. The Eagles let Brian Dawkins get away in the off-season and his loss is going to hurt the team in Super Bowl odds. They signed free agent Sean Jones and they are hoping the rest of the secondary with Asante Samuel, Quintin Demps, Quintin Mikell and newcomer Ellis Hobbs is good enough. Pro Bowler Lito Sheppard is also gone. Kicker David Akers and punter Sav Rocca return. Philadelphia’s window for winning in Super Bowl odds is closing. The 2009 NFL season could be their last good chance in NFL odds.
