2009 San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl Odds

The San Francisco 49ers will head into the 2009 season trying to make the playoffs in NFL odds for the first time since 2002. Head coach Mike Singletary has instilled a winning attitude at San Francisco and if they could just find a quarterback they might actually end that playoff drought in sports odds. The 49ers are 50-1 in NFL odds at online sportsbooks to win Super Bowl XLIV. San Francisco is going to run the ball under Singletary and play defense. That does make the quarterback position less important but they still have to find someone to make some plays if they are going to win in Super Bowl odds.

The position is up for grabs between Shaun Hill and Alex Smith. Neither one inspires a lot of confidence but at least Hill is 7-3 as a starter the last two years while all the team has done with Smith is find ways to lose. The 49ers are led on offense by running back Frank Gore who is one of the best backs in the league and a player who can impact NFL odds. The team took running back Glen Coffee in the third round from Alabama and they are hoping he can give Gore some relief. The 49ers took wide receiver Michael Crabtree in the draft but his impact may be less than expected since he couldn’t come to a contract agreement on time. Isaac Bruce will team with Josh Morgan and Brandon Jones to give San Francisco a solid wide receiving corps even without Crabtree.

The team also has a tight end with a lot of potential to put up big numbers in NFL odds with Vernon Davis. The 49ers offensive line should be better with a healthy Marvel Smith. Joe Staley is a rock and the team hopes that Chilo Rachal can make an impact. The team also has a good center in Eric Heitmann and left guard David Baas is also a starter. The San Francisco defense up front has Justin Smith, Demetric Evans, Isaac Sopoaga and nosetackle Aubrayo Franklin competing for time with Ray McDonald and Kentwan Balmer. While the line is nothing special the linebackers can impact NFL odds with Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes. They also have Parys Haralson and Manny Lawson. The secondary is very good when considering Super Bowl odds with Dashon Goldson at free safety and Michael Lewis at strong safety. The corners are Nate Clements, Walt Harris and Dre Bly. The kickers are solid with Joe Nedney and punter Andy Lee. San Francisco definitely has a chance to beat the NFL betting lines for the NFC West this season. They are +240 in NFL odds to win the division.
