![]() The Oakland Raiders begin the 2009 season with a little bit of optimism in sports odds under head coach Tom Cable. The key for the Raiders in NFL betting odds this season again will be the play of quarterback JaMarcus Russell. So far, Russell has not been the franchise quarterback the Raiders expected him to be and that must change if the Raiders are to take a big step up this season. Oakland is 100-1 in NFL betting to win in 2010 Super Bowl odds at online sportsbooks. The offense is expected to be led by Russell but if he doesn’t get the job done the Raiders brought in veteran Jeff Garcia to take over. Oakland should have a solid running game but they need more production out of Darren McFadden. Justin Fargas is a workhorse while Michael Bush can also gain yards. Signing free agent fullback Lorenzo Neal could be huge as he has been known as the best blocking fullback in the NFL for years. NFL betting stats tell us that the Raiders have an interesting group of receivers. Javon Walker is supposed to be the top guy but Chaz Schilens is quickly becoming Russell’s favorite receiver. For some unknown reason the Raiders took Darrius Heyward-Bey in the NFL Draft and it remains to be seen if he can live up to the Raiders faith in him. Zach Miller is a very good tight end who should have a great year. Oakland’s offensive line simply isn’t very good. They brought in Khalif Barnes to help. Cornell Green is one starter and Erik Pears could be another one. Samson Satele could be the starting center with Cooper Carlisle the right guard. Robert Gallery is the one solid player the Raiders have on the line. The Raiders defense has some holes and that is a problem versus NFL odds. Derrick Burgess went to New England but the team did sign Greg Ellis who was picked up from Dallas. Tommy Kelly has been an overpaid bust at tackle. Gerard Warren is another overpaid lineman. The linebackers are better with Thomas Howard and Kirk Morrison. The secondary is led by Pro Bowl corner Nnamdi Asomugha. The problem for the Raiders is that teams avoid him and throw everywhere else. The kicking game is solid with punter Shane Lechler and kicker Sebastian Janikowski. The Raiders have the potential to be improved this season in NFL betting but with Russell as the starting quarterback and a leaky defense, it might be asking too much for Oakland in Super Bowl odds to get above the .500 mark. |
