2009 Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl Odds

If you think the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to rest on their laurels after winning in last year’s win in Super Bowl odds you might want to think again. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a focused head coach in Mike Tomlin, a veteran team with excellent leaders like Ben Roethlisberger and Hines Ward and a determination to win again in sports betting odds. The Steelers are 10-1 at sportsbooks in NFL betting odds to win Super Bowl XLIV. The Steelers have won two of the last four in Super Bowl odds and that experience could prove very valuable since after their last win they fell to an 8-8 record the following season.

Pittsburgh has vowed that won’t happen in 2009. The Steelers lost only two starters from last year’s team and added some players that should more than pick up the slack. The Steelers are led at quarterback by Roethlisberger who is one of just a few quarterbacks to win two Super Bowls in their career. He does get sacked a lot but has a toughness that very few quarterbacks have. He has missed only two games in the past three years. Pittsburgh slipped to 23rd in the league last year in rushing as NFL betting odds stats indicate, but that number should improve withRashard Mendenhall back from injury. He combines with starter Willie Parker to give the Steelers a solid ground attack. The Pittsburgh receivers are very good with Santonio Holmes and Ward.

Pittsburgh is hoping that Limas Sweed will step up and take the #3 spot since they lost Nate Washington in the off-season. Pittsburgh has a very good tight end in Heath Miller who blocks and catches the ball well. The offensive line for Pittsburgh returns all five starters but many people believe the line is to weak for NFL betting at sportsbooks. The line gave up 46 sacks last year, second most in Pittsburgh history. The Steelers have a very good defense that is simply dominating with defensive coordinator Dick Lebeau running the show. Up front they are experienced and deep and now they have Ziggy Hood who they took with their top pick in the draft. Pittsburgh had the #1 defense overall in NFL betting odds last season and it should be just as good this year. The defense is led by linebacker James Harrison who was the Defensive Player of the Year. He has LaMarr Woodley, James Farrior and Lawrence Timmons helping him out.

The secondary will be counting on William Gay to replace Bryant McFadden. Ike Taylor is the other corner with Deshea Townsend playing in the nickel. Pittsburgh’s safeties are great with Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark. The kicking game has Jeff Reed and punter Daniel Sepulveda who is back after missing last season due to injury. Pittsburgh probably doesn’t get enough respect in NFL odds as defending champs. They are 10-1 in NFL betting odds at sportsbook.com while New England is 4-1. The Steelers could find themselves matched up against the Patriots for the AFC title this season and Pittsburgh’s defense might give them the edge.
