![]() If you are looking for a longshot in 2009 BCS odds to make an impact on the national scene you might want to take a glance at Michigan State. The Spartans are 100-1 at sportsbooks to win in 2009 BCS odds. Head coach Mark Dantonio has done an excellent job with Michigan State and they could surprise some people this season, especially since they don’t have to face Ohio State. The Spartans were just one game behind Ohio State last season for the Big Ten conference title in college football odds and they could be just as good in 2009. The offense has to replace Javon Ringer but other areas of the team are stronger. On offense the team has Kirk Cousins and Keith Nichol at quarterback. Cousins is the likely starter but both players are going to see a lot of time. The running game has talent even though Ringer is gone. Redshirt freshman Caulton Ray has breakaway speed while Ashton Leggett has the power. Andre Anderson and Edwin Baker are also in the mix. The receiving corps is very good led by Keshawn Martin, Mark Dell and tight end Charlie Gantt. Clemson transfer Brian Linthicum also looks like a good receiving threat at tight end. The offensive line could be very good this season for the Spartans. Center Joel Nitchman and left tackle Rocco Cironi return while left guard Joel Foreman is also back. J’Michael Deane looks like he will get another one of the spots while the other position is up for grabs. Lineman Trevor Anderson leads a talented defensive line. Oren Wilson and redshirt freshman Jerel Worthy look to be ready to make an impact this season. The linebackers are excellent led by Greg Jones who was first-team All-Big Ten as a sophomore. Eric Gordon is a rock as well while Brandon Denson, Jon Misch and Adam Decker should get playing time along with freshman Chris Norman. The secondary is also very good and can impact BCS odds at sportsbooks with almost everyone back. Ross Weaver and Chris L. Rucker are excellent corners while Kendell Davis-Clark, Dan Fortener and Marcus Hyde will compete for the safety spots with Trenton Robinson. The kicking game is in great shape with All-Big Ten returnees Brett Swenson and Aaron Bates. The Spartans may be longshots on the college football odds at online sportsbooks but they are very capable of pulling off some surprises and perhaps winning the Big 10 in this season. |
