![]() Tom Brady is back. Not much else needs to be said when talking about the 2009 New England Patriots in sports betting. Brady’s return has made the Patriots the +400 favorite in NFL odds at most sportsbooks to win Super Bowl XLIV. Anything less than another win in Super Bowl odds will be a disappointment in New England. It is not like the Patriots were chopped liver in NFL odds without Brady last season. Matt Cassel was excellent and the Patriots went 11-5. It was the first time since 2002 in Super Bowl odds that a team missed the playoffs after winning eleven games. New England did not sit still in the off-season as they added running back Fred Taylor, wide receiver Joey Galloway and cornerback Shawn Springs. Head coach Bill Belichick is considered the best coach in the NFL today and that title will be tested this season as he loses four assistants from last year including offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels who went to Denver. The offense for New England is simply loaded. Brady is back and most people expect him to be just as good as he was in 2007 when he won the league MVP. They had better hope he stays healthy though because there is not a Matt Cassel to replace him this time. The running game is led by Laurence Maroney who is now being challenged for the starting job by Fred Taylor. The Patriots also have Kevin Faulk who simply does it all. The Patriots have a great receiving duo in Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Moss gets all the press but it was Welker who has 223 catches the last two years, best in the league. The Patriots added Greg Lewis and Galloway in the off-season. The tight end position could be upgraded with the addition of Alex Smith. The offensive line is solid for betting NFL odds with Logan Mankins, Matt Light, Dan Koppen and Stephen Neal. The right tackle spot is up for grabs with the incumbent being Nick Kaczur. The defensive line for New England is led by Vince Wilfork in the middle with Richard Seymour and Ty Warren on the ends. The team lost Mike Vrabel to the Chiefs but they picked up Derrick Burgess from the Raiders. New England really needs Adalius Thomas to start earning his money though. The good news for New England in Super Bowl odds is that they have Defensive Rookie of the Year Jerod Mayo and the veteran Teddy Bruschi. The secondary is weak even with the addition of Springs. The Patriots are hoping that Leigh Bodden and rookie Darius Butler can play well. Brandon Meriweather and James Sanders look to be the safeties with rookie Patrick Chung getting playing time. The kicking game is in the solid hands of Pro Bowler Stephen Gostkowski. The Patriots will be favored in NFL odds in nearly every game this season at online sportsbooks. They are extremely talented and are a deserving favorite in Super Bowl odds. |
