![]() Is this the year that the Miami Hurricanes finally live up to their potential under head coach Randy Shannon? So far in his tenure the Hurricanes have been a bust but college football betting odds give them a chance this season. The Hurricanes are 75-1 to win the national title in BCS odds. The Hurricanes are one of the main contenders to win the ACC Coastal Division in college football betting this season as they are listed at +325 at sportsbooks. Miami still has some question marks heading into the 2009 season as they still have Shannon as head coach and they have a tough schedule. Miami could easily start the season 1-3 in college football betting and if they don’t beat Georgia Tech they will start 0-4. They probably are not going to win at Florida State; they host Georgia Tech in a winnable game, go to Virginia Tech where they should lose and then host Oklahoma in another game where they are overmatched. It would be one thing to play those games later in the season but those are the first four games plus Miami has a new offensive and defensive coordinator. Miami is led on offense by quarterback Jacory Harris. Since Robert Marve transferred out of the program the Hurricanes must keep Harris healthy because there is nothing behind him. The running game is in the hands of Graig Cooper and Javarris James. If they both stay healthy Miami should be able to run the ball effectively. The backups will be Lee Chambers, Damien Berry, Mike James and Lamar Miller. The receivers at Miami always seem to be good and that is the case again this year. The team has Aldarius Johnson and LaRon Byrd leading the way with Thearon Collier, Travis Benjamin, Tommy Streeter and Leonard Hankerson looking for the third receiver spot. The offensive line is good with Matt Pipho, Jason Fox, Orlando Franklin, A.J. Trump and Joel Figueroa. The defensive line returns most of the players who got time last year but none of them have been that good. Allen Bailey, Marcus Robinson, Adewale Ojomo, Eric Moncur and Marcus Forston will look for playing time with Forston the potential star. The linebackers are solid but would be improved if Colin McCarthy is healthy. Sean Spence was the ACC Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year while Darryl Sharpton and Arthur Brown, also return. The secondary is a problem when looking at college football betting odds. DeMarcus Van Dyke and Brandon Harris are contending for the corner spots. Sam Shields has moved into the secondary while Randy Phillips and Vaughn Telemaque are in the mix at safety along with JoJo Nicolas and Ray Ray Armstrong. Matt Bosher is a solid kicker but a weak punter. The Hurricanes could struggle to have a winning record in college football odds again in 2009. |
